Civil War GAR Delegate 29th Encampment Medal - 1895

This is a very nice medal as worn by a Civil War veteran who served as a Delegate at the 29th Annual GAR National Convention in Kentucky in 1895.

Very hard to find, as there were only 1,134 of these medals were given out.

2 1/4" wide x 3 1/2" tall medal is beautifully diestruck. Features a bronze horse, affixed to to a gold plated suspension bar which depicts tobacco leaves, a whiskey barrel, and the GAR monogram. Suspended from that is a heavy gold medallion, with an encapsulated bronze medal depicting Union soldier shaking hands with a Confederate soldier.

The medallion reads "United We Stand - Divided We Fall". The reverse of the medallion reads "Presented by the Citizens Committee - Louisville - 1895 - Delegate - 29th National Encampment". Maker marked with crossed cannons and "Heeren Bros & Co. - Pitts., Pa.".

Condition would rate as near mint.

Absolutely guaranteed to be authentic and as represented. Not a commemorative, repro, or any other such nonsense.
