WW2 German Arbeitsbuch - Housemaid
This is a nice example of a WW2 German Arbeitsbuch issued to Ida Burghofer, a Hausgehilfin (Housemaid). Born in 1892, single with no children. She was a live-in servant with a history of several employers at several addresses over the years. Includes a "Merkblatt" (Information Sheet) for Arbeitsbuch-holders from 1935.
The Arbeitsbuch was a mandatory official personal document recording the employment status of an individual over time. It became essential in wartime and had to be constantly produced for police, who were on the lookout for vagrants, shirkers, deserters and spies. This particular example is in the less-encountered early style, produced prior to the nazified version with swastika designs on the cover and every page.
Some redundant pages or ones with no data entries are not pictured.
