Indian Wars 24th Infantry Buffalo Soldiers Hat Badge

Lifetime Guarantee of Authenticity on this Badge!

This is a nice Indian Wars Hat Badge for a member of H Company, 24th Infantry Regiment. This size (2 1/8") Bugle Badge was authorized for wear in 1872 - the design changed to crossed Rifles in 1875, although "Trumpeters" were still allowed to wear these for a time (see "History of the Artillery, Cavalry and Infantry Branch of Service Insignia" by La Framboise).

The 24th Infantry was organized during a reduction in March 1869 by merging the 38th and 41st (all Black Enlisted Men) Regiments. They served throughout the Western United States. Missions included garrisoning frontier posts, battling American Indians, protecting roadways against bandits, and guarding the border between the United States and Mexico.
