William Henry Harrison 1839-1840 Campaign Badge Cider Barrel
This is an extremely scarce Political Badge from William Henry Harrison's "Hard Cider and Log Cabins" Presidential Campaign of 1839-1840. 2 1/16" x 1 5/16" Hard Cider Barrel is brass with a lead-filled backing and four brass mounting prongs. This was the style used for military insignia at the time, with Badges and Breast-Plates continuing to be made of lead-filled brass throughout the Civil War. I would say this was meant to be worn breast-plate style on a diagonal sash. A very rare, untouched Campaign Badge and condition is truly nice for an item that is 175 years old.
