This is a medal worn by a veteran who attended the Department of Illinois State Encampment in Rock Island in 1902.
The Medal with ribbon measures 1 1/2" wide x 3 1/4" tall overall and reads "Representative - N.B. Thistlewood - Department Commander 1901 - 36th Annual Encampment - Department of Illinois - G.A.R. - Rock Island - May 20-22 , 1902".
The attaching pin had been repaired with Epoxy, but the oin became detached again after these photos were taken.
