Typed letter April 21, 1945 " ... below us now is the wrecked harbor of Manila. I never believed there could be so many ships sunk in one place. Our Air Force must have given them a real pasting there. .. almost everywhere you look you can see a Jap plane piled up on the landscape. Honorable Jap Rising Sun appears to be setting from where this G.I. sits".
