This is a nice WW2 German Dog Tag in original condition, with the original neck cord. It's for a soldier in "Landesschtzen-Bataillon 838" (Home Defense Batallion 838). They were depoloyed in the Netherlands, and were in Amsterdam when the war in Europe ended.

Home Defense Battalion 838 was established on June 1, 1940, in Wehrkreis XIII. The battalion was established as an occupation force for the West. The battalion was formed by dividing National Rifle Battalion 801. The battalion was divided into three companies. After its establishment, the battalion was later subordinated to the Commander of the Army Troops in the Netherlands. The battalion was deployed by him in the Netherlands. In 1943/44, the battalion was stationed in Schiedam, also in the Netherlands. The battalion was most recently deployed in the Amsterdam area, also in the Netherlands.
The 13th Landesschützen-Ersatz-Bataillon was responsible for providing replacements for the battalion.
