Operation Crossroads was a pair of atmospheric nuclear tests conducted by the United States at Bikini Atoll in the Marshall Islands in July 1946. The tests—named Able and Baker—used 23-kiloton plutonium devices to measure the destructive impact of atomic weapons on a fleet of 95 target warships.
